Entrepreneurship
as a Prisoner Reentry Strategy
Pre Summit Forum
Tuesday, May 20
8:30a.m. - 5:00 p.m
Millions of people are currently incarcerated in prisons and jails
in the United States, and hundreds of thousands return to our communities each
year. Given the barriers they face in the traditional labor market and the
stigma of a criminal conviction, fostering entrepreneurial skills among this
population may substantially enhance the prospect of their successful
reintegration. The microenterprise development sector can play a unique role in
facilitating their ability to support themselves and their families, and become
a productive member of society. This
forum will outline the challenges and opportunities of prisoner reentry and
provide concrete recommendations for microenterprise programs to establish
programs and effectively serve this population.

Coaching for Small Biz
A
program for building capacity and expanding quality assistance to clients
Pre Summit Forum
Tuesday, May 20
8:30a.m. - 5:00 p.m
"Sustainable"
microenterprise should be a goal of microenterprise development. If it is not,
we are likely wasting time, financial and emotional capital and institutional
resources in the process of getting businesses underway that are unlikely to
successfully endure. The odds for sustainable
micro-entrepreneurial success are vastly increased when an entrepreneur can
develop an understanding of: defining operational activities and processes
that work well; measuring progress and controlling results; making smart
changes to meet needs and capture opportunities; and making sound decisions
that matter.
Using a "master/apprentice" coaching and TA
process practitioners will learn how best to pass on this critical knowledge to
their clients. This 1 day forum will focus on six central practice areas essential to coaching
and TA for sustainable microenterprise success.
